NORFOLK, Va., April 13, 2021 – Senior outfielder Jalian Young of Morgan State has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. The league’s Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors were captured by a pair of Howard players, with
graduate pitcher Kiana Carr winning Pitcher of the Week and
freshman outfielder Sydni Jones winning Rookie of the Week.
Young (OF, Sr., Westampton, N.J.) batted .385 while going 5-for-13 in the weekend series with Howard. She had a triple and a double in the series, with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Carr (P, 5-2, Gr., Phoenix, Ariz.) went 2-1 during the past week for Howard with a 2.08 ERA. She made four appearances on the mound, pitching all 11 innings of the final game against Morgan State. She struck out 14 batters while allowing 17 hits and six runs over 20.2 innings.
Jones (OF, 5-8, Fr., Whitter, Calif.) went 7-for-23 for a .429 batting average in a six-game week. She had a pair of doubles with two RBIs and one run scored.
Other Top Performers
Kalita Dennis (Howard) went 7-for-20 for a .350 batting average with two home runs and two doubles.
Mia Ewell (Morgan State) went 6-for-17 for a .294 batting average as the Bears split the weekend series with Howard, 2-2. She had a team-high five runs scored in the series.
Stephanie Rundlett (Morgan State) went 1-1 over the weekend against Howard with an ERA of 1.27.
