NORFOLK, Va., March 8, 2021—
Coppin State junior Miajavon Coleman was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Coppin State’s Chudear Tut was named Rookie of the Week, while
Coppin State junior Kareemah Hopkins earned Setter of the Week honors and
Coppin State sophomore Ashley Roman was named Defensive Specialist of the Week.
Coleman (5-10, Jr., OH, San Antonio, Texas) was key in a pair of wins over Howard this past Thursday and Friday, starting with a 10-kill performance in Thursday’s four-set win – a match in which she also had our digs. She was one of three Eagles to record double-digit kills in that match. In Friday’s sweep of the Bison, she added nine kills, five service aces, five digs and three block assists.
Tut (6-2, Fr., MH, Minneapolis, Minn.) racked up 11 kills and assisted on four blocks in Thursday’s four-set win over Howard, before adding six more kills and four block assists in Friday’s three-set sweep. She went error-free on Friday and hit .500 for the match.
Hopkins (5-11, Jr., S, San Diego, Calif.) averaged nearly eight assists per set in a pair of wins over Howard this past week. On Thursday, she had 36 assists, four service aces, three block assists, three digs and two kills, and on Friday, she added 19 assists and two kills.
Roman (5-5, So., L/DS, Isabela, Puerto Rico) ad 18 digs to lead the Eagles defense on Thursday against Howard, then added nine more digs in Friday’s three-set sweep.
Other Top Performers
Maria Caratini (Delaware State) had seven digs and seven assists in a sweep of St. Mary’s (Md.).
Jelena Dukic (Delaware State) had 17 assists and four digs against St. Mary’s (Md.).
Sydney Lewis (Delaware State) had seven kills to go along with three blocks against St. Mary’s (Md.).
Adriana Rodriguez (Delaware State) had six kills and two blocks, going error-free against St. Mary’s (Md.).
Kayla Diaz (Howard) had 35 assists and eight digs in the first match against Coppin State.
