Pairings Set for MEAC Volleyball Championship

Bracket

NORFOLK, Va.,
March 29, 2021 – The field is set for the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship, which will be held Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, at Echols Hall on the campus of Norfolk State University.

Given that the current season was postponed from fall 2020 to spring 2021, this MEAC Volleyball Championship will be considered the 2020 championship for record-keeping purposes.

Coppin State and North Carolina A&T State are the No. 1 seeds from the Northern and Southern Divisions, respectively, with Delaware State and North Carolina Central also making the four-team field.

Friday’s semifinal round will begin at 4 p.m. with the Aggies – who went a perfect 8-0 in MEAC play and have won nine matches in a row – squaring off against Delaware State. The Hornets, in their second season under head coach Dr. Bruce Atkinson, went 7-3 in MEAC play this year and are making their first tournament appearance since 2010.

The second semifinal will see Coppin State (9-1 MEAC) take on North Carolina Central (4-2 MEAC) at 7 p.m.

The top two teams in each division qualified for the MEAC Volleyball Championship. Morgan State, five-time defending champion Howard and South Carolina State did not qualify.

Friday’s winners will meet in Saturday’s championship match at 6 p.m. The match, which will determine the MEAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Volleyball Championship, will be televised live on ESPNU.

Friday’s semifinal matches will be streamed live; the doubleheader will be available for $10. Links will be available later in the week.

Norfolk State will make a limited number of general-admission tickets available to the public, to a maximum capacity of 500 people per COVID-19 protocols. Tickets will be $10 per day and are available here.
