NORFOLK, Va., March 29, 2021—
Coppin State junior Miajavon Coleman and
North Carolina A&T State redshirt junior Fatimah Shabazz were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Coppin State’s Chudear Tut was named Rookie of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State senior Edie Brewer earned Setter of the Week honors and
Coppin State junior Ashley Roman was named Defensive Specialist of the Week.
Coleman (5-10, Jr., OH, San Antonio, Texas) had a monster match against Morgan State on Monday, hitting .321 while recording a season-high 21 kills and 14 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Shabazz (6-0, r-Jr., RS, Cincinnati, Ohio) racked up a MEAC-best 25 kills and hit .467 as the Aggies ran their winning streak to nine matches with a five-set, comeback win over East Carolina on Friday.
Tut (6-2, Fr., MH, Minneapolis, Minn.) ended the season with back-to-back double-digit kill efforts against Morgan State. In Monday’s four-set win, she had 11 kills, and she added 14 more kills on Sunday, hitting a team-best .500 for the match.
Brewer (6-0, Sr., S/RS, West Chester, Ohio) had a fantastic all-around match against East Carolina, recording 32 assists and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, while also notching four kills, three blocks and a service ace.
Roman (5-5, So., DS/L, Isabela, Puerto Rico) racked up 21 digs in Monday’s four-set win over Morgan State, before adding 17 more in Sunday’s sweep of the Bears.

Kareemah Hopkins (Coppin State) racked up 45 assists in the first match against Morgan State on Monday.
Maria Caratini (Delaware State) had 17 digs and four service aces on Sunday against Howard.
Jelean Dukic (Delaware State) had 30 assists against Howard and recorded a double-double (25 assists, 10 digs) against Morgan State.
Alayna Lacy (Delaware State) had 30 assists and 10 digs against Morgan State.
Valeria Otero (Delaware State) racked up 13 kills and a career-high 17 digs against Morgan State.
Jennifer Bolden (Howard) recorded 14 kills and 10 kills in back-to-back matches against Delaware State.
Marcelle Butler (Howard) had four blocks against Delaware State on Sunday.
Milexa Cardona (Howard) had 38 assists and 10 digs in the first match against Delaware State.
Lauren Janok (North Carolina Central) had 30 assists and six digs in the first of two matches against South Carolina State.
Ammaarah Williams (North Carolina Central) recorded 10 kills in the first of two matches against South Carolina State.
