NORFOLK, Va., March 23, 2021 – Redshirt junior third baseman Nia Bowe of Coppin State has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. Meanwhile,
Norfolk State sophomore Kirsten Greene was tabbed Pitcher of the Week, with
North Carolina A&T State freshman outfielder Alyxx Estrada and
Norfolk State freshman catcher Kerris Cameron sharing Rookie of the Week honors.
Bowe (3B, 5-6, r-Jr., Milford, Del.) batted .583 over six games during the past week for the Coppin State, going 14-for-24 with eight RBIs and six runs scored. She hit two home runs and two doubles, with the homers coming in Game 2 versus Delaware State, a contest in which she went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Greene (P, 5-6, So., Hayes, Va.) saw action in all four of the Spartans’ games against Howard, winning Game 1 on Saturday and recording a save in Game 2 on Sunday, blasting a walk-off grand slam in the latter contest. In the series, she recorded a perfect 0.00 ERA, allowing just three hits and one run in 9.2 innings of work.
Estrada (OF, 5-2, Fr., West Jordan, Utah) batted .500 as the Aggies went 3-1 against Florida A&M, batting a perfect 3-for-3 in the series finale with three runs scored, including scoring the game-tying run. She opened the series going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Cameron (C, 5-6, Fr., Longview, Texas) batted .500 as the Spartans went 3-1 against Howard. She went 2-for-3 in the first game on Sunday, including two doubles with one run scored.
Other Top Performers
Jaelyn Baker (Delaware State) went 4-for-16 (.250) with two doubles and five RBIs against Coppin State.
Sydney Hoffman (Delaware State) won a pair of games against Coppin State, registering a 2.54 ERA while allowing two earned runs in 7.1 innings of work.
Melkayla Irvis (Florida A&M) batted .375 (6-for-16) with four doubles, three runs scored and one RBI in the Rattlers' weekend series versus North Carolina A&T State.
Gabriella Williams (Florida A&M) earned her first victory of the season, tossing a complete game (8.0 IP) against the Aggies on Sunday. She allowed just two runs on six hits and striking out two in FAMU's 3-2 victory.
Brooke Bond (Norfolk State) batted .333 as the Spartans went 3-1 against Howard. She went 4-for-12 during the series, hitting a three-run double in Game 2 of Sunday’s 6-3 win. She also had eight RBIs in the series.
S’Nyiah Stinson (North Carolina A&T State) won one contest while losing another as she garnered a 2.33 ERA against Florida A&M. She accumulated 13 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Joirea Dumas (North Carolina Central) went 3-for-6 (.500) in two games against East Tennessee State, collecting two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored.
