NORFOLK, Va. – Two Norfolk State pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout in game 1, and the Spartan softball team won the weekend series over Howard with a win in game 2 on Sunday afternoon at the NSU Softball Field.
The teams split a doubleheader on Saturday, but NSU had none of that on day 2. Sophomores
Alexis Robinson and
Kirsten Greene limited the Bison in a 6-0 win in the first contest. Junior
Brooke Bond's three-run double put NSU ahead for good in the second game, won by the Spartans by a 6-3 margin.
They improved to 10-12 overall on the season and 3-5 in the MEAC. Bond also drove in three runs in the first game to complete a stellar weekend.
Junior
Denisha Megginson drove in a pair of runs in the first contest when she hit a two-run double in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. Bond had driven in a run in the first, and senior
Tuli Iosefa hit a sacrifice fly in the third before Megginson's hit an inning later.
Bond followed with a solo home run in the fifth and a bases-loaded walk in the sixth for the final six-run margin. Robinson (2-5) allowed all three Bison hits in five innings, and Greene pitched two hitless innings in relief.

CARY, N.C. — Sophomore
Diamond Porter looped a single to left field that plated the walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh inning of Sunday's nightcap as the North Carolina Central University softball team salvaged a non-conference doubleheader split against visiting East Tennessee State University.
The Buccaneers won the first game, 8-0, at Thomas Brooks Park before the Eagles rallied to take the finale, 8-7. ETSU finished the day at 10-6 overall while NCCU picked up its first win to move to 1-16 on the season.
NC Central will next begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a four-game series at Florida A&M University on Saturday-Sunday, March 27-28.

EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T took a gut punch in the visitor's seventh inning before delivering a gut-punch of their own in their half of the seventh inning to win Game 2 of a Sunday doubleheader at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex, 8-6 over Florida A&M in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) softball play.
The Aggies lost the first game, 3-2 in eight innings, to finish the weekend with a 3-1 record against the Rattlers.
Senior
Stephanie Williams delivered the fatal blow to the Rattlers on Sunday in Game 2 with a walk-off two-run homer to left field.
“I love this group of ladies,” said A&T coach
Patti Raduenz. "It's nice to see their hard work finally pay off for them. They never say die. They never say quit. They believe they can win any game they play."
Williams' heroics occurred after a silence came over the softball complex in the Rattlers seventh when Brandice Boatwright launched a three-run homer to give the Rattlers a 6-5 lead going into the home seventh.

Baltimore, Md. – The Lady Bears scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a tie game two up at five all but UMBC would score a run in the bottom half of the inning and complete the four game sweep of Morgan State.

Jaelyn Baker drove in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the 11
th inning to lift Delaware State to 5-4 victory over Coppin State to give the Hornets a sweep of a MEAC North doubleheader today.
DSU won the opener 12-8 to take three of the four games in the weekend series.
In the nightcap,
Jonah Cunnigan began the 11
th inning at second base under softball tie-break rules. Cunnigan moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Caitlyn Meyer before scoring the winning run on Baler's fly out to center.
The Hornets trailed 4-0 in game two before scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cunnigan tripled in the first two runs of the inning and the third run crossed the plate on a ground out by Meyer.
Delaware State trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Jade King singled to lead off the DSU seventh and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. The Hornets were down to their last out when
Jasmine Melgoza singled up the middle to score King with the tying run and send the game into extra innings.
Yanique Spencer was the winning pitcher the Hornets in game two, going all 11 innings, allowing just seven hits and striking out three.
In the opener, Caitlyn Meyer was two-for-two with a home run and five RBI, and Baker drove in three to lead the Hornets' 12-hit attack.
