NORFOLK, Va., March 2, 2021–The Tarke brothers of Coppin State University have captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors, presented by Coca-Cola, with
redshirt senior guard Anthony Tarke winning both Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors and
freshman guard Nendah Tarke winning Rookie of the Week honors.
Anthony Tarke (G, 6-6, 220, r-Sr., Gaithersburg, Md.) had a banner weekend in wins over Delaware State, posting averages of 23.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 2.0 blocked shots and 1.5 steals. He set a school record by going a perfect 11-for-11 from the field in Sunday’s 94-74 road win over the Hornets, a game in which he scored 31 points with a season-high eight assists along with three rebounds. That was preceded by a 15-point, 15-rebound effort on Saturday. He also had five assists, four blocked shots and two steals in Saturday’s contest. It is Anthony’s second time winning Player of the Week and his eighth time winning or sharing Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Nendah Tarke (G, 6-4, 190, Fr., Gaithersburg, Md.) picked up his fifth MEAC Rookie of the Week honor after averaging 17.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals over the weekend. The younger Tarke brother also averaged 1.5 blocks and 1.0 assist. He had 21 points with six rebounds, three blocks and a pair of steals in the first contest against the Hornets, followed by 13 points, nine rebounds, five steals and an assist in the second game.
Other Top Performers
DJ Jones (Florida A&M) averaged 14.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 blocks during the week against the Bulldogs.
MJ Randolph (Florida A&M) had a career-high 27 points with nine rebounds in the first of three games against South Carolina State en route to averaging 17.0 points, 7.7 rebounds 6.7 assists over the past week.
Jalen Speer (Florida A&M) averaged 11.3 point 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game against South Carolina State.
Devante Carter (Norfolk State) averaged 17.0 points along with 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals during the week.
Webster Filmore (North Carolina A&T State) averaged 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week versus archrival North Carolina Central. He had a 12-point, 14 rebound double-double at the Eagles, the latter a career high.
Jamir Moultrie (North Carolina Central) averaged 11.5 points while shooting 50.0 percent from the arc (4-for-7) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-for-8).
