FLORENCE, S.C. – During his first college golf event, North Carolina Central freshman Trey Morse carded a 1-over par 73 in the second round to top the Eagles at the season-opening Raines Company Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 6-7, at the Country Club of South Carolina.
Battling cold, wet and windy weather conditions, Morse (New Orleans, La.) closed out Saturday's second round with three birdies in the last four holes for the Eagles' low score of the weekend. He also posted rounds of 79 and 81 to finish in 58th place on the leaderboard with a total score of 233.
NCCU redshirt sophomore Daniel Barbare (Raleigh, N.C.) was just two strokes behind Morse with rounds of 78, 76 and 81, using five birdies and 30 pars during the tournament to place 60th.
Another NCCU freshman, Kendall Wallace (Blythewood, S.C.) achieved 31 pars on the weekend to shoot a total of 237 with rounds of 79, 80 and 78 to finish 61st. Redshirt junior Hogan Lang (Lockport, N.Y.) contributed scores of 80, 81 and 82 to place 62nd.
As a team, NCCU tallied rounds of 316, 310 and 322 (948) to finish in 10th place in the 10-team tournament field. Middle Tennessee State University won the event, hosted by Francis Marion University, with a team total score of 834 (280-274-280).
