MEAC Women's Hoops: Schedule Shuffling Takes Center Stage

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and South Carolina State's decision on Wednesday to cancel the remainder of its women's basketball season, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's hoops is seeing a lot of schedule shuffling heading into the first weekend in February.

Howard's Jayla Thornton and Coppin State's Aliyah Lawson were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, for their respective performances this past weekend. Thornton had 23 points on seven 3-pointers against Delaware State, while Lawson recorded her first double-double of the season against Morgan State, notching a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Howard's Anzhane' Hutton was named both Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week.

With S.C. State joining Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Maryland Eastern Shore in no longer competing in 2020-21, that currently leaves seven women's basketball programs vying for the 2021 Air Force Reserve MEAC Basketball Tournament crown.

This weekend will see all four Northern Division teams in action; Coppin State will head to Dover, Del. for a Saturday-Sunday twinbill against Delaware State, while Morgan State and Howard will rematch in Washington, D.C. with first place in the division on the line.

Norfolk State was scheduled to head to Durham, N.C. to face North Carolina Central on Saturday and Sunday, but those games have been postponed.

Please note all games are subject to change.
