MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 23, 2021– A trio of players from Florida A&M have captured Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday.  The FAMU honorees include senior forward Bryce Moragne (Player of the Week), freshman guard Jalen Speer (Rookie of the Week) and redshirt senior forward DJ Jones (Defensive Player of the Week). Jones shares Defensive Player of the Week honors with North Carolina A&T State senior guard Kameron Langley.
 
Moragne (F, 6-5, 220, Sr., Tampa, Fla.) had a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double to go along with three assists and two steals in a victory over North Carolina A&T State on Saturday, followed by 15 points with nine rebounds and three steals in a loss to the Aggies on Sunday. For the week, he averaged 12.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists.
 
Speer (G, 6-1, 172, Fr., Gainesville, Fla.) averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds in the two contests against North Carolina A&T State over the weekend. His top outing was in Sunday’s game, when he tallied 16 points, seven assists and three rebounds.
 
Jones (F, 6-9, 200, r-Sr., Baton Rouge, La.) averaged 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocked shots on the defensive end, along with 8.0 points and 1.5 assists offensively against NCAT. His top contest consisted of 12 points with nine boards, four blocked shots and two assists in Saturday’s victory.
 
Langley (G, 6-2, 165, Sr., High Point, N.C.) had a career night in Sunday’s win over Florida A&M with nine steals, giving him 219 career steals, just six shy of the all-time school record. He added 13 points, five rebounds and four assists in the game. For the week, Langley averaged 8.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists.
 
Other Top Performer
Tyler Maye (North Carolina A&T State) averaged 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the weekend series against Florida A&M. He had 14 points with six rebounds and two steals in Sunday’s victory.
