MEAC Women's Hoops: Busy Weekend as March Draws Closer

With the regular season wrapping up in a few weeks, and the 2021 Air Force Reserve MEAC Basketball Tournament just around the corner, the league's seven remaining women's basketball programs are heading into a busy weekend.

Howard will look to solidify its hold on first place in the Northern Division when it heads to Baltimore, Md., this weekend for a twinbill against Coppin State. Morgan State, which is tied with Howard at 6-2 atop the division standings, was to play host to Delaware State this weekend, but those games have been postponed and make-up dates have not been announced.

In the Southern Division, North Carolina A&T State is on top at 6-0 and has won its last nine games. The Aggies can potentially claim the division's top seed with a win over Norfolk State this weekend, as the two teams will square off twice in Echols Hall.

North Carolina Central, with a schedule opening because of South Carolina State's decision, will head to Statesboro, Ga., for a pair of non-conference games this weekend against Georgia Southern.

North Carolina A&T State's Chanin Scott and Coppin State's Aliyah Lawson were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week this past week, presented by Coca-Cola. Lawson hit the eventual game-winner against Delaware State and blocked what would've been the Hornets' potential game-winning three in the closing seconds, while Scott was strong in two games against NCCU, including a double-double in the second game.

Howard's Anzhane' Hutton was again named MEAC Rookie of the Week, and NCAT's Jayla Jones-Pack, who had six blocks in one game against the Eagles, was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Please note all games and times are subject to change.
