MEAC Men’s Hoops: Coming Up on the Final Weekends

By Noah Goodin

Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) basketball continues the final stretch run of what’s been a strange season with more conference action this coming weekend.

Delaware State will host St. Mary’s (Md.) on Sunday, after the Hornets had their weekend series against Morgan State postponed. Those games have not yet been rescheduled.

Florida A&M will welcome Southern Division first-place North Carolina A&T State to the Lawson Center this weekend for the third and fourth meetings of the season between the two teams. Saturday’s game will be streamed live on FloHoops. The Aggies come into the series winners of five straight, and this will be their first game since defeating the Rattlers back on Jan. 30-31.

FAMU has won 11 straight home games, dating back to last season.

North Carolina Central was scheduled to travel to South Carolina State this weekend for a pair of games, but those were postponed.

Norfolk State swept the weekly honors as Devante Carter was named MEAC Player of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season. Carter led the Spartans to back-to-back wins over Morgan State this past weekend, averaging 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and four assists per game.

JJ Matthews was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 6.5 points, five boards, and 1.5 blocks per game. His two blocks on Saturday were a career high.
