WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The
Howard University women's volleyball team overcame a 2-0 deficit to take down Coppin State in five sets (27-29, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 16-14) at Burr Gymnasium on Friday evening.
With the win, Howard moved to .500 (2-2) overall while grabbing its first conference win of the season (1-1).
Three Bison led the way with double-doubles: juniors Kaailyn Williams (14 kills, 10 digs) and Milexa Cardona (22 assists, 10 digs) and sophomore Kayla Diaz (26 assists, 11 digs).
Coppin State took a commanding 2-0 match lead after hitting .333 in the first two frames, but HU refused to go away.

North Carolina A&T State 3, North Carolina Central 0
DURHAM, N.C. -- North Carolina A&T State senior outside hitter Courteney Pitt became the third volleyball player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. In the process, the Aggies won their third consecutive match by defeating chief rival North Carolina Central in three sets (25-23,25-13,25-22) Friday night at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
The Aggies remained undefeated in MEAC play.
"Congrats to Courteney Pitt for earning her 1,000th career kill tonight," associate head coach Blaine Tendler said. "It was a nice team effort tonight. It's always a lot of fun, but very mentally demanding playing in rivalry matches."
Pitt joins Arlene Mitchell (2003-06) and Brooke Stamnes (2012-15) in the Aggies' 1,000-kill club. Pitt came into the match Friday five kills shy of the milestone. She finished the night with nine kills to give her 1,004 for her career.
Pitt's historic kill came in the second set. Sophomore Addy Warfield assisted on the play.
Pitt's numbers also included posting a .462 hitting percentage.
