North Carolina A&T State Wins James Brown Invite
TOWSON, Md. -- North Carolina A&T State won the James Brown Invitational bowling tournament this past weekend, posting a 3-0 record on the final day of the three-day tournament.
The Aggies are 23-4 on the season.
The top two teams in the tournament squared off as the Aggies, ranked 13th in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, defeated No. 17 Duquesne 4-0.
Freshman Melanie Katen led the individual standings after totaling 1,073 pins to average 214.60 over five games. She topped the standings by 43 pins, with one traditional match left on Sunday. She knocked down 200-plus pins in four of the five games she bowled.

Delaware State Finishes Second at James Brown Invite
TOWSON, Md. -- Delaware State made it to the championship match before falling to national No. 13 North Carolina A&T State in the James Brown Bowling Invitational this past weekend.
The Hornets, No. 15 in the latest NTCA poll, posted a 10-4 overall record in the three-day tourney, which also featured No. 8 Youngstown State and No. 17 Duquesne.
The Hornets were 3-2 in the first day of competition, winning Baker matches against Youngstown State, Morgan State and Coppin State, but falling to Duquesne and North Carolina A&T State.
Individually, freshman Alyssa Breidegem earned All-Tournament First Team honors after finishing fourth among all competitors with a five-game total pinfall of 991 for a 198.2 average. Breidegam topped the 200-mark in two games, including a high of 232 vs. Duquesne, one shy of her season best.
She has three all-tourney awards in the Hornets' four tournament appearances this season.

Phelan, Lehrer Lead Monmouth at Garden State Classic
NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- The Monmouth University bowling team continued its 2021 season at the Garden State Classic at Bowlero on Friday and Saturday.
The Hawks went 4-6 head-to-head in the two-day tournament, highlighted by three traditional match victories over Felician, Bloomfield and NJCU on Saturday. Monmouth led the field in total pinfall on Saturday with a 185.8 average as a team.
Freshman Jamie Phelan continued the strong start to her collegiate career with another standout performance, leading all individual bowlers on Saturday with a 207.40 average across five individual games, including three 200+ efforts.

Morgan State Finishes Fifth at James Brown Invite
TOWSON, Md. -- The Morgan State bowling team finished fifth in the annual James Brown Invitational this past weekend in their home tournament at AMF Country Club Lanes.
Wins were tough to come by for the Lady Bears as they faced a six-team field against four nationally-ranked teams and Coppin State, who received votes in the latest NTCA Coaches Poll. However, there were some standout performances by individual players on the Bears roster and the team.
Morgan State placed two players on the JBI All-Tournament Team in a strong field of nationally ranked teams. Ashanti Fernandes made All-Tournament First Team by averaging 192.8 with games of 203, 160, 234, 194, 173. Natalia Miranda Vega was named Second Team All-Tournament with a 190.0 average and games of 190, 212, 181, 221, 146.

Coppin State Finishes Sixth at James Brown Invite
TOWSON, Md. -- Coppin State's Aushia McLean and Logan Brown were named to the All-Tournament Team as the Eagles bowling team finished sixth of seven teams at the James Brown Invitational this weekend at AMF Country Club Lanes.
McLean led Coppin State with a five-match average of 191.60, finishing ninth overall with 958 pins while Brown placed tenth overall, averaging a 190.20 with 951 total pins.
McLean rolled three 200+ games, opening the second day of the Tournament with a 201 against North Carolina A&T State and a 214 versus Delaware State before closing out traditional play with a 203 against Youngstown State. Brown was consistent throughout the day, and played better as matches went on, finishing with a season-high 211 against Morgan State and a 199 against Youngstown.
