NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 16, 2021—
North Carolina A&T State graduate student Chanin Scott and
Coppin State junior Aliyah Lawson were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Howard’s Anzhane’ Hutton was named Rookie of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State senior Jayla Jones-Pack was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Scott (G, 6-0, Gr., Charlotte, N.C.) averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as the Aggies defeated rival North Carolina Central by double digits twice this past weekend to remain unbeaten in MEAC play and run their win streak to nine games. Scott’s weekend included a double-double on Sunday, when she had 22 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four steals and three assists.
Lawson (G, 5-7, Jr., Whitby, Ontario) dropped 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in a win over Delaware State, and her jumper with 1:16 remaining in the game was the bucket that put the Eagles up for good. In addition, she blocked the Hornets’ potential game-winning 3-pointer with three seconds to go to preserve the two-point win.
Hutton (F, 6-0, Fr., Cedar Hill, Texas) notched her third double-double of the season in a win over Delaware State this past Friday, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor for 11 points while also grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds. She also had two assists, two blocked shots and a steal.
Jones-Pack (F/C, 6-3, Sr., Amityville, N.Y.) tied her season high with six blocked shots on Sunday against North Carolina Central, a game in which she also grabbed nine rebounds (five defensive) and had two steals.
Other Top Performers
Hope Evans (Coppin State) had six points and three rebounds against Delaware State.
Kiana Coomber (Delaware State) grabbed 14 boards against Coppin State and added nine more against Howard.
Krislyn Marsh (Howard) dropped 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Delaware State.
Sean Kelly Darks (North Carolina A&T State) had 17 points in each of the Aggies’ two wins over North Carolina Central.
Anissa Rivera (North Carolina Central) had 23 points 10 rebounds and four blocks on Sunday against North Carolina A&T State.
