MEAC Announces Weekly Bowling Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 16, 2021North Carolina A&T State freshman Melanie Katen was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowler of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Monmouth’s Jamie Phelan was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Katen (Fr., San Jose, Calif.) won the individual title at the James Brown Invitational, leading by 43 pins in traditional play in helping the Aggies win the team title. She averaged 214.6 pins and bowled 210 or better in four of her five traditional games – including two games of better than 240. Her weekend best was a 248 against Coppin State, and she added a 242 against Delaware State.
 
Phelan (r-Fr., Happy Valley, Australia) was the top individual at the Garden State Classic, averaging 207.4 pins and topping the 200-pin mark in three of her five traditional games to earn All-Tournament honors. Her weekend best was also a tournament-high 258.
 
Other Top Performers
Logan Brown (Coppin State) came in 10th at the James Brown Invitational, averaging 190.2 pins and earning All-Tournament honors.
 
Aushia McLean (Coppin State) was named All-Tournament at the James Brown Invitational, averaging 191.6 pins and finishing ninth in the individual standings.
 
Alyssa Breidegam (Delaware State) was fourth at the James Brown Invitational, earning All-Tournament honors after averaging 198.2 pins in traditional play.nc
 
Ashley Fernandes (Morgan State) was sixth at the James Brown Invitational with a 192 pinfall average and a weekend high of 234.
 
Natalia Miranda Vega (Morgan State) averaged 190 pins at the James Brown Invitational and earned All-Tournament honors.
