NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 15, 2021Morgan State senior Tylar Roberson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s Chudear Tut was named Rookie of the Week, while Coppin State junior Kareemah Hopkins and North Carolina A&T State senior Edie Brewer shared Setter of the Week honors and North Carolina A&T State junior Shaylynn Hall was named Defensive Specialist of the Week.
 
Roberson (5-11, Sr., OH, Elkhart, Ind.) led the Bears in their sweep of Howard to open conference play on Friday, racking up 17 kills and nine digs to fall just shy of her second double-double of the season. With just four errors in 38 total attacks, Roberson hit .342 for the match and added a service ace.
 
Tut (6-2, Fr., MH, Minneapolis, Minn.) was one of three Eagles to record double-digit kills in a near-upset of Villanova, going for 11 with a .304 hitting percentage. She also assisted on a pair of blocks.
 
Hopkins (5-11, Jr., S, San Diego, Calif.) racked up 44 assists in the match against Villanova, while also recording five kills, four digs and three service aces. She quarterbacked an Eagles offense that hit .320 for the match – a program record for a five-set contest.
 
Brewer (6-0, Sr., S/RS, West Chester, Ohio) recorded two double-doubles as the Aggies opened MEAC play with back-to-back sweeps of Norfolk State. In Thursday’s match, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year had 19 assists and 12 digs (to go along with seven kills and two aces), and on Friday, she racked up 21 assists and 10 kills, while also adding seven digs.
 
Hall (6-1, Jr., MB, Raleigh, N.C.) averaged 4.5 total blocks in two matches this past week against Norfolk State. She had five total blocks in Thursday’s match, including a pair of solo efforts at the net, and on Friday, Hall added another four total blocks.
 
Other Top Performers
Jordan Celestine (Coppin State) had 12 kills and hit .588 against Villanova.
 
Ashley Roman (Coppin State) recorded 28 digs against Villanova, the fourth-highest single-match total in Coppin history.
 
Jennifer Bolden (Howard) had nine kills against Morgan State.
 
Kayla Diaz (Howard) recorded 17 assists and three digs against Morgan State.
 
Amari Patterson (Howard) had 12 digs, two aces and two assists against Morgan State.
 
Tamar Wells (Howard) went error-free in recording nine kills against Morgan State.
 
Jada Bivins (Morgan State) had 29 assists, five digs and a pair of aces against Howard.
 
Jourdan Page (Morgan State) recorded seven kills and one block against Howard.
 
Lauren Janok (North Carolina Central) recorded a double-double (26 assists, 11 digs) on Friday against South Carolina State.
 
Ammaarah Williams (North Carolina Central) accounted for 25.5 points in two matches against South Carolina State, averaging 6.5 kills, 4.0 aces and 3.5 total blocks per match.
 
Paola Matos (Norfolk State) had nine kills and three digs in the second match against North Carolina A&T State.
 
Nicole Rodriguez (Norfolk State) had 12 digs in the first match against North Carolina A&T State.
