NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 1, 2021—
Coppin State junior Miajavon Coleman was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today.
Morgan State’s Gabriela Hiciano was named Rookie of the Week, while
Coppin State junior Kareemah Hopkins earned Setter of the Week honors and
Delaware State sophomore Sydney Lewis was named Defensive Specialist of the Week.
Coleman (5-10, Jr., OH, San Antonio, Texas) led four Eagles with double-digit kills in a four-set win over George Mason on Saturday, racking up 15 kills to go along with eight digs, five service aces and a pair of blocks. Coleman hit .220 for the match and accounted for 21.5 points.
Hiciano (5-11, Fr., OH, Carolina, Puerto Rico) recorded her first collegiate double-double in Friday’s straight-set win over George Washington, going for 11 kills and 11 digs. She committed just three errors, hitting .286 for the match, and she also added a pair of blocks (one solo, one assisted).
Hopkins (5-11, Jr., S, San Diego, Calif.) fell one dig shy of a double-double against George Mason, racking up 43 assists and nine digs in the four-set victory. She also assisted on four blocks to go along with four kills and three service aces.
Lewis (6-1, So., MB, Bowie, Md.) racked up seven blocks (one solo, six assisted) in the Hornets’ four-set win over George Washington on Saturday. She also had seven kills in the match.

Ashley Roman (Coppin State) had 22 digs and seven assists against George Mason.
Chudear Tut (Coppin State) racked up 11 kills, four blocks and three digs against George Mason.
Valeria Otero (Delaware State) had 13 kills and seven digs against George Washington.
Jennifer Bolden (Howard) hit .400 and had nine kills in a sweep of George Mason.
Milexa Cardona (Howard) racked up 16 assists and four service aces against George Mason.
Kailyn Williams (Howard) had 12 digs against George Mason.
Jada Bivins (Morgan State) recorded 31 assists and nine digs in a sweep of George Washington.
Tylar Roberson (Morgan State) had 11 digs against George Washington.
Paola Matos (Norfolk State) had five kills and three digs against VCU.
Heliceliz Rivera (Norfolk State) recorded 19 assists and six digs against VCU.
Nicole Rodriguez (Norfolk State) had 21 digs against VCU.
