CHARLESTON, S.C., Dec. 20, 2021 – The South Carolina State men’s basketball team defeated The Citadel 74-57 on Monday evening in the opening game of the Cobb Dill & Hammett Classic.
S.C. State (6-8), avenging a 91-79 loss to The Citadel from three weeks ago (Nov. 28), led for most of the first half and took a two-point advantage into halftime after a three-point play by Edward Oliver-Hampton at the end of the period.
The closest The Citadel (6-4) could get in the second half was 35-33 on a 3-pointer by Jason Roche with 17:38 left in the game. SC State led by as many as 17 in the final period.
TJ Madlock led S.C. State with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor. Cameron Jones and Jemal Davis each poured in 11 points. Jones added four rebounds and two assists, while Davis tallied three boards and three blocks.
S.C. State takes on Charleston Southern at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
