WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Destiny Howell led three players in double figures with 22 points on Tuesday as the Howard University women's basketball team defeated UMBC 74-61 in Burr Gymnasium.
The Bison (5-5) have won five of their last seven games.
Howell was 9-for-20 from the floor en route to her 22-point output, and she also had two steals, two rebounds and a block. Anzhane' Hutton added 11 points and six rebounds, going 5-for-10 from the floor, and Iyanna Marsh chipped in 10 points and six assists.
Krislyn Marsh grabbed a team-high 10 boards.
The Bison shot 40.5 percent (30-for-74) from the floor, overcoming a slow start in the first quarter to shoot 40 percent or better in each of the last three quarters. Howard also turned 19 UMBC turnovers into 22 points and held a 41-35 edge on the glass. Howard also had the advantage in bench scoring, 24-10.
