NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 14, 2021 – Senior forward Nathaniel Pollard Jr. of Maryland Eastern Shore has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. Redshirt junior forward Tyree Corbett of Coppin State and senior forward Kris Monroe of North Carolina Central are the MEAC Co-Defensive Players of the Week, while freshman guard Chace Davis of Maryland Eastern Shore is the MEAC Rookie of the Week.
Pollard (F, 6-5, Sr., Richmond, Va.) averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds during the week, leading the Hawks to victories over Clarks Summit and Saint Mary’s (Md.). He had a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double against Clarks Summit, followed by a 16-point, eight-rebound effort against St. Mary’s. For the week, he connected on 16 of 22 shots from the floor (72.7 percent).
Corbett (F, 6-7, 180, r-Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 10.0 rebounds in two games during the week. Against George Washington, he had 12 rebounds along with 15 points. Three nights later, he had eight boards along with 16 points against Towson.
Monroe (F, 6-8, 212, Sr., Raleigh, N.C.), in his lone game during the past week, had his first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 16 points in a win over Carver.
Davis (G, 6-3, Fr., Accokeek, Md.) had 16 points and three assists in the Hawks’ win over Clarks Summit. For the week, he averaged 10.0 points and 1.5 assists.
Other Top Performers
Kyle Cardaci (Coppin State) led all scorers with a career-high 22 points against Towson on Saturday, hitting 7-of-14 shots from 3-point range.
Corey Perkins (Delaware State) had 14 points and three assists against St. Francis Brooklyn.
Dana Tate Jr. (Norfolk State) had a career-high 22 points to go along with nine rebounds at Wichita State.
Justin Wright (North Carolina Central) had career highs of 20 points and seven assists against Carver, as well as a game-high four steals.
