NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 30, 2021—Coppin State redshirt sophomore guard Mossi Staples was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central freshman guard Diamond Thomas was named Rookie of the Week, while Morgan State senior forward Taylor Addison earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Staples (5-7, r-So., G, Fort Washington, Md.) helped Coppin State remain unbeaten at home so far this season in a win over Saint Francis, pouring in 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting, while also dishing out three assists and grabbing a pair of steals. She also dropped 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting, including three 3-pointers, against East Carolina, where she also had three assists and two steals. For the week, Staples shot a combined 9-for-16 (.563) from the floor.
Thomas (5-4, Fr., G, Knightdale, N.C.) averaged 17.0 points a game for the Eagles this past week, shooting nearly 44 percent from the floor (combined 14-for-32). She opened with a season-high 18 points and three steals against James Madison, before turning in a 16-point, 4-rebound effort against Elon – a game in which she knocked down a trio of 3-pointers.
Addison (5-10, Sr., F, Columbia, Md.) averaged 4.5 steals per contest as the Bears extended their winning streak to three games with wins over Washington Adventist and Saint Peter’s. The bulk of those steals came in the Saint Peter’s game, where she nabbed a season-high seven.

Jaia Alexander (Coppin State) had eight rebounds and four steals against Saint Francis.
Jewel Watkins (Coppin State) dropped 16 points and grabbed seven boards against Saint Francis.
Zoe Holmes (Delaware State) recorded a double-double against Towson with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Nyla Cooper (Howard) hit five 3-pointers en route to a career-high 17 points against Towson.
Krislyn Marsh (Howard) blocked three shots against Towson and had nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals against Mount St. Mary’s.
Ashia McCalla (Morgan State) had 15 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists against Saint Peter’s.
Camille Downs (Norfolk State) dropped 13 points against Air Force.
Deja Francis (Norfolk State) had three blocked shots against Air Force.
Trinity Klock (South Carolina State) had 14 points and seven rebounds against Jacksonville State.
