MEAC Announces Weekly Football Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 22, 2021Delaware State wide receiver Trey Gross was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference announced today. South Carolina State linebacker BJ Davis was named Defensive Player of the Week, while South Carolina State running back Kendrell Flowers was named Rookie of the Week. South Carolina State’s Cam Johnson was named Offensive Lineman of the Week and earning Specialist of the Week honors was North Carolina Central’s Brandon Codrington.
 
Gross (WR, 6-4, 210, Sr., Annapolis, Md.) caught a career-high 12 passes for 142 yards and found the end zone four times in the Hornets’ overtime thriller against North Carolina Central.
 
Davis (LB, 6-2, 190, r-So., Blair, S.C.) recorded 14 tackles, including seven solo stops, in the Bulldogs’ MEAC title-clinching win over Norfolk State. He also forced a fumble in the contest.
 
Flowers (RB, 6-0, 215, r-Fr., Columbia, S.C.) had game highs of 32 rushing attempts and 172 yards and got into the end zone against the Spartans.
 
Johnson (OL, 6-2, 285, r-Fr., Irmo, S.C.) graded out at 90% and helped the Bulldogs rack up 422 yards of total offense in their win over Norfolk State.
 
Codrington (RS, 5-9, 170, So., Raleigh, N.C.) blocked a Delaware State field goal attempt in the first overtime, which set up the Eagles’ win. He also returned four punts 45 yards with a long of 25 yards that set up a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, and two kickoffs for 36 yards with a long of 22 yards.

Maurio Goings (Delaware State) had a career-high 10 tackles, including four solo stops, against North Carolina Central.
 
Kwannah Kollie (Delaware State) returned three kickoffs for 109 yards against the Eagles, including a long of 77 yards.
 
Alfonzo Graham (Morgan State) had 160 rushing yards – including a long of 86 yards – on nine attempts with two touchdowns in a win over Georgetown.
 
Juwan Carter (Norfolk State) accounted for 285 total yards of offense, including 45 rushing and 240 passing, and two touchdown passes in his final collegiate game.
 
Devin Smith (North Carolina Central) collected four receptions for 53 yards, averaging 13.3 yards per catch, including a 15-yard touchdown against Delaware State.
 
Jaden Taylor (North Carolina Central) amassed a game-high 11 tackles, including 1.5 stops for a loss, and a forced fumble against Delaware State.
 
Corey Fields, Jr. (South Carolina State) threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns against Norfolk State.
