MEAC Announces Weekly Bowling Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 2, 2021Morgan State junior La’Monique Berrios was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowler of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s TaVera Johnson was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Berrios (Jr., St. Croix, Virgin Islands) was named First Team All-Tournament at the Virginia Union Invitational, averaging 217.6 pins in traditional play to end up second in the overall individual standings. She bowled a weekend-high 236 against Virginia Union and a 224 in an upset win over No. 12 Sacred Heart. Her performance helped the Bears go 10-1 for the weekend to win the tournament.
 
Johnson (Fr., Millersville, Md.) was 10th overall at the Virginia Union Invitational with a 190.4 pinfall average and a weekend high of 203 against Johnson C. Smith. She had three other traditional matches in the 190s in helping the Eagles finish second in the tournament.
 
Other Top Performers
Saige Yamada (Monmouth) was 16th in the DezyStrong Classic, averaging 195.2 pins in traditional play and eclipsing the 200-pin mark twice.

Crystal Brewer (Norfolk State) averaged 216.6 pins in traditional play at the Virginia Union Invitational, including a career-high 279 against Fayetteville State (tied for the third-highest single game in program history)
 
Elise London (UAB) averaged 183.6 pins in the DezyStrong Classic to come in 31st – including a weekend-best 202.
