MEAC Announces Weekly Football Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 15, 2021Delaware State quarterback Jared Lewis was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference announced today. Delaware State defensive back Charles Peeler was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Norfolk State running back J.J. Davis was named Rookie of the Week. North Carolina Central’s Torricelli Simpkins III was named Offensive Lineman of the Week and earning Specialist of the Week honors was North Carolina Central’s Adrian Olivo.
 
Lewis (QB, 6-0, 200, r-So., Baltimore, Md.) threw three touchdown passes – all in the fourth quarter – in the Hornets’ comeback win over Norfolk State on Saturday. That performance, in which he also threw for 215 yards, included the game winner to Trey Gross with 1:53 remaining in the game.
 
Peeler (DB, 5-8, 175, Jr., Washington, D.C.) had a hand in turning Norfolk State over twice on Saturday, intercepting a pass and forcing a fumble the Hornets recovered. He also recorded four tackles (all solo), including a sack, for the Hornets.
 
Davis (RB, 5-9, 170, r-Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing game, and fourth of the season, totaling 115 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown against Delaware State.
           
Simpkins III (OL, 6-3, 300, Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) helped the Eagles rack up 530 yards of total offense in a win over Howard – including 293 on the ground and six rushing touchdowns – without committing a penalty or giving up a sack.
 
Olivo (K, 5-10, 160, So., Plant City, Fla.) contributed nine points in the Eagles’ win over Howard, hitting a 24-yard field goal and connecting on all six extra-point tries.

Sy’Veon Wilkerson (Delaware State) rushed for 73 yards on 16 carries against Norfolk State.
 
Terrance Hollon (Howard) had eight tackles (six solo) against North Carolina Central.
 
Quinton Williams (Howard) threw for 313 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for a touchdown, against North Carolina Central.
 
De’Shaan Dixon (Norfolk State) racked up eight tackles (six solo), 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, while forcing a fumble, against Delaware State.
 
Latrell Collier (North Carolina Central) rushed for 115 yards and two scores against Howard.
 
Kole Jones (North Carolina Central) had an interception and forced a fumble against Howard.
 
Andrew Smith (North Carolina Central) had five receptions for 93 yards against Howard.
 
Kendrell Flowers (South Carolina State) rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown against North Carolina A&T State.
 
Kendell Moultrie (South Carolina State) had five tackles and two sacks against North Carolina A&T State.
