Delaware State 80, Cairn University 41
DOVER, Del. -- Delaware State led 25-2 after 11 minutes and never looked back in a wire-to-wire 80-41 win over Cairn in the debut of new Hornets' head coach Stan Waterman in Memorial Hall Tuesday evening.
Waterman was hired to lead the Hornets last summer after a highly successful coaching tenue at Delaware's Sanford School, leading the boys basketball team to eight state championships.
Dominik Fragala led four Delaware State players in double figures with a game-high 16 points, highlighted by four 3-point field goals on seven attempts. Myles Carter and reserve Kyrie Staten added 11 points each, while Chris Smith also came off the bench to score 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting from field.
Smith also led all players with a career-high four blocks.

Howard 87, University of DC 59
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Howard University men's basketball team took down the District of Columbia (UDC) Firebirds in the season opener inside The Burr, 87-59.
D.C. native Elijah Hawkins showed why he is going to be one of the top freshman in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), pouring in a game-high 23 points to lead four Bison in double figures.
Senior Deven Richmond contributed 14 points and Harris had 12 points.
The Bison dominated the boards, holding a 52-39 advantage with senior Sam Green grabbing 11 off the bench and second-year Bison Jordan Wood adding 10 boards in the win.

Morgan State 118, St. Mary's (Md.) 55
BALTIMORE, Md. -- De'Torrion Ware scored a game-high 27 points, senior Malik Miller also scored 16 and Morgan State beat St. Mary's College of Maryland 118-55 on Tuesday night in the Bears season opener.
Isaiah Burke added 14 points and six assists and Michael Douglas had 11 points and five rebounds.
Ware, the Preseason MEAC Player of the Year, shot 9-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, as Morgan hit 10 of 23 3-pointers and shot 65 percent (45-69) from the field.

Norfolk State 79, Bridgewater 56
NORFOLK, Va. -- Joe Bryant, Jr. and Kris Bankston helped Norfolk State shake off a slow start by scoring 18 and 15 points, respectively, to propel the Norfolk State men's basketball team to a 79-56 win over Bridgewater on Tuesday at Echols Hall.
Bryant hit 7-of-13 from the floor and Bankston was a perfect 7-of-7, including three thunderous dunks for the Spartans, who overcame a 33-29 halftime deficit.
Bankston added 14 rebounds for a double-double in his first game at Norfolk State. Another new Spartan, Christian Ings, added 14 points. Both Nyzaiah Chambers and Dana Tate, Jr. scored eight apiece, with Tate scoring all of his in the second half.

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Coppin State's men's basketball team drops its season opener to Loyola Chicago Tuesday night at Gentile Arena. After falling to the Eagles in 2019, the Ramblers defeated Coppin 103-45.
Coppin State's Jesse Zarzuela led all Eagles in points with eight while Nendah Tarke, Tyree Corbett and Mike Hood had seven points apiece.

RICHMOND, Va. -- North Carolina Central used blistering 3-point shooting to jump out to a 14-point first-half advantage at Richmond, but the host Spiders crawled their way back for a 70-60 season-opening victory at the Robins Center on Tuesday night.
NCCU torched the nets on 8-of-14 shooting from long range in the first 15 minutes, including back-to-back triples by Asanti Price and Alex Caldwell to cap a 22-8 run and provide the visiting Eagles with a 33-19 cushion with 5:05 remaining before intermission.

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Redshirt sophomore guard Cameron Jones scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but South Carolina State fell short to East Carolina 70-62 Tuesday at Williams Arena at Minges.
Freshman guard TJ Madlock added 11 points and six rebounds, while Jemal Davis added eight points, four rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
