NCCU Men Win Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge

CARY, N.C. -- 
All five scoring runners for the North Carolina Central men's cross country team finished in the top 10 of the field to lead the Eagles to their third team victory of the season, winning the Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge as part of the 2021 Great American XC Festival on Saturday at the WakeMed Soccer Complex.
 
The Eagles, who also won the UNCW Beach Blast and the Greensboro XC Festival, had three of the top four finishers on the way to the team victory over fellow HBCUs Virginia State, Bowie State, Shaw and Livingstone.
 
NCCU's top three runners all finished within one minute of each other to place second, third and fourth. Redshirt senior Juan Rodriguez led the maroon and gray across the finish line of the 8,000-meter course to finish runner-up with a time of 26:45.

Delaware State's Norman Breaks Own Record at Don Cathcart Invite

SALISBURY, Md. -- 
Albert Norman, who set a school record at The Shore XC Invite just last week, broke his own record at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University.

Norman recorded a time of 25:33.30, which shaved 24 seconds off his time from last week's race. He finished third overall out of a field of 104 runners and was Delaware State's only top-five finish in the race.

Ftwi Paces Hawks at Don Cathcart Invite

SALISBURY, Md. -- 
The Maryland Eastern Shore cross country squad struggled to build on momentum during Saturday's road trip to Salisbury University's Don Cathcart Invitational. The Hawks men and women each finished sixth overall in the competition, while just two runners from The Shore — both men — finished in the Top 20 individually.

Junior Nahom Ftwi improved on last week's gutty performance at home with a 15th-place finish (27:15.40) in the 8K. Edwin Kipruto came in 20th in the race (28:03.00).

S.C. State's Banks Has Another Strong Performance

CONWAY, S.C. -- 
South Carolina State sophomore Jada Banks had another strong outing Saturday at the Chanticleer Challenge cross country meet.

Banks, a sophomore from Conyers, Ga., completed the 5K course in a time of 19:10.8, good enough for 23rd in a field of 87 female runners. Banks earlier set a school record with a time of 18:07.0.
 
Trey Felton, also a sophomore, had the top time for the S.C. State in the men's 8K, finishing 26th among 90 runners with a time of 28:09.7. Charleston Southern won the men's division with a score of 22 and a team time of 28:09.7.
