NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 4, 2021Delaware State sophomore Valeria Otero was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Morgan State’s Madison Grace was named Rookie of the Week, while North Carolina Central sophomore Lauren Janok earned Setter of the Week honors and North Carolina Central redshirt sophomore Alyssa Pieh was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Otero (5-9, So., OH, Manati, Puerto Rico) averaged 4.3 kills and 2.0 digs per set in a pair of straight-set wins for the Hornets. She opened the weekend on Friday with 12 kills and four digs against Maryland Eastern Shore, and on Sunday, she had 14 kills, eight digs and two blocks against Norfolk State – a match in which she hit .290.
 
Grace (5-10, Fr., OH, Clinton Township, Mich.) hit .351 and recorded 17 kills against Coppin State, notching her seventh straight match with double-digit kills.
 
Janok (5-11, So., S, Rougemont, N.C.) had a strong all-around match against South Carolina State, racking up 33 assists, an average of 11 per set, while also recording seven kills (without an error) and four digs on defense.
 
Pieh (5-7, r-So., DS/S, Raleigh, N.C.) averaged 6.3 digs per set, racking up 19 digs total in a three-set win over South Carolina State.

Paola Caten (Coppin State) had 12 kills and two service aces against Morgan State.
 
Ahzhi Coleman (Coppin State) hit .444 with six kills and two blocks against Morgan State.
 
Ashley Roman (Coppin State) had 14 digs against Morgan State.
 
Andrea Tsvetanova (Coppin State) recorded 34 assists, five digs and a service ace against Morgan State.
 
Malgorzata Andersohn (Delaware State) recorded 21 assists, seven digs and two aces against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Jasmal Cruz (Delaware State) had 12 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore and 14 against Norfolk State.
 
Kelsie Dawson (Delaware State) had four kills each against Maryland Eastern Shore and Norfolk State, while also combining for seven blocks across the two matches.
 
Busi Banda (Howard) had a school-record 11 service aces and six digs against Norfolk State.
 
Bria Woodard (Howard) hit .407 with 12 kills and two aces against Norfolk State.
 
Charlize Williams (Maryland Eastern Shore) had four blocks and three kills against Delaware State.
 
Ammaarah Williams (North Carolina Central) racked up 13 kills and four digs, hitting .417 against South Carolina State.
