DOVER, Del., Oct. 3, 2021 -- The Delaware State volleyball team keeps adding to its school-record win streak.
The Hornets extended the streak to 12 with a 3-0 victory over visiting Norfolk in Memorial Hall on Sunday. The sores were 25-14, 25-18 and 25-20.
Delaware State now stands at 16-1 overall this season, the best mark after 17 matches in team history and tops among all
MEAC teams.
Delaware State's overall season win percentage, now at .941, ranks in the top 10 among all NCAA Division I teams.
The Hornets also sit atop the MEAC standings at 4-0, a half-game ahead of North Carolina Central (3-0). The Eagles will be the Hornets' next opponent this Friday in Memorial Hall.
Delaware State has won by 3-0 scores 10 times and taken 36 of 38 sets during the 12-match win streak.
The Hornets have 13 shutout wins, including the last three contests, and is 49-7 in sets played this year (12-1 in MEAC).
In Sunday's win, Valeria Otero led the Hornets with a match-high 14 kills, while also tallying eight digs, two aces and two blocks.
Alondra Maldonado was second on the team with six kills, while Kristi Gomez and Karen Cordero posted five winners each.
Delaware State's Jasmal Cruz led all players with 14 digs.
Hornet setters Jelena Dukic and Malgorzata Andersohn also played key roles in the win. Dukic led all players with 17 assists and tied for second on the team with eight digs. Andersohn recorded 16 helpers and six digs in the match.
Delaware State freshman Kelsie Dawson led all players with four blocks.
Delaware State held a 40-19 edge in assists in the contest. The Hornets also held an advantage in digs 47-36.
The Hornets recorded a .233 hitting percentage in the match, tallying 43 kills and 19 errors on 103 attacks. Norfolk State had 20 kills and 14 errors on 83 attempts for a .072 percentage.
