CARY, N.C., Oct. 29, 2021 – Norfolk State placed four runners in the top eight Friday morning to win the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women’s cross country championship at the WakeMed Soccer Park.
The Spartans defended their 2019 title and their third overall. Kenneth Giles was named the meet’s Outstanding Coach.
South Carolina State’s Jada Banks was named Outstanding Performer after winning the 5K race with a time of 18:40.6. Norfolk State’s Fridah Koech was second with a 19:03.3, while Howard’s Joslyn Crosby and Camille Egbula were third (19:25.0) and fourth (19:30.4), respectively.
Three-time defending MEAC champion Martha Bissah of Norfolk State ran a 19:36.9 to come in fifth. Kara Grant from Norfolk State was sixth in 19:41.2, and the Spartans saw Tynniesia Wilson finish eighth with a time of 19:52.2.
The Spartans had 41 points for the race, followed by Howard in second with 55 points. Coppin State (97) and South Carolina State (107) rounded out the top four spots in the team standings, and rounding out the field were Delaware State (113), North Carolina Central (144), Morgan State (146) and Maryland Eastern Shore (192).
The top 15 finishers were named All-MEAC.
