Dover, Del. (Oct. 28, 2021) --- Delaware State running back
Sy'Veon Wilkerson is among 22 players named to the Watch List for the 2021 Stats Perform Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Jerry Rice Award, presented to the nation's top freshman.
The Rice Award, now in its 11th season, is named for the legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver, who was a star at Mississippi Valley State University before his legendary National Football League career.
Heading into this weekend's games, Wilkerson is tops in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and 23
rd among all FCS players (third among freshmen) in rushing at 89.3 yards per game.
In addition, he's 19
th in the nation and second among freshmen with 625 total rushing yards and tied for 21
st (third among freshmen) with seven rushing touchdowns, also tops in the MEAC.
Wilkerson has two 100-yard rushing games this season, including 169 vs. Wagner on Oct. 2, the most by a Hornet since 2008.
He is the only MEAC player on the 2021 Jerry Rice Award Watch List.
Wilkerson and the Hornets return to action this Saturday (Oct. 30) at home against Howard. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
