Men's Cross Country 10/25/2021 4:33:50 PM MEAC, North Carolina Central Set to Host 2021 Cross Country Championships Championship Central NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 25, 2021 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and North Carolina Central University will host the 2021 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships on Friday at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The championships will begin with the women’s 5K race at 11 a.m., with the men’s 8K race following at 11:45. The top 15 runners from each race will be named All-MEAC. Norfolk State is the defending MEAC champion for both the men and the women, having swept the titles back in 2019 – the last year the MEAC Cross Country Championships were held. Norfolk State also boasts the two best 8K times for the men so far this season, with 2019 individual champion Meshack Kipchirchir (25:28.9) and Evans Cheruiyot (25:30.1). For the women, South Carolina State’s Jada Banks has the best 5K time this season with a school-record 18:07.0. The Spartans’ Fridah Koech is second with an 18:27.0, and her teammate Kara Grant is third with a time of 19:21.5. On Saturday morning, the MEAC will team up with North Carolina Central to recognize breast cancer survivors. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. The 2021 MEAC Cross Country Championships are free and open to the public, though the MEAC asks those in attendance to wear masks.
