MEAC Cross Country Recap, Oct. 15-16

Howard University Men, Women Win DSU Farm Invite

SMYRNA, Del. -- 
Howard University men's and women's cross country teams both won the 2021 Delaware State University (DSU) Farm Invite, hosted by the Hornets on Friday.
 
Howard had four Bison finish in the top 10 on the men's side, led by senior Ayoade Adebiyi winning the event with a 27:29.40 mark. Fellow classmate and Delaware native Gavin Williams returned home to finish runner-up, clocking in at 28:22.60.

For the women, junior Breanna McDonald won the event with a 20:00.10 mark.

Delaware State Men Second, Women Third at DSU Farm Invite

SMYRNA, Del. -- 
The Delaware State men's cross country team placed second, and the women came in third, in its own invitational on Friday.

The Hornets were led by Devin Smith, who finished second overall with a final time of 27:54.0.

Jaelyn Windham was the fastest Hornet in the race on the women's side, finishing seventh with a final time of 21:32.5.

Maryland Eastern Shore Tunes Up for MEAC Championships

SMYRNA, Del. -- 
Sophomore Dominique Spann led the way with a seventh-place finish for the  Maryland Eastern Shore women's cross country team at Friday evening's DSU Farm Invitational, while senior Asshanni Robb was right behind in eighth.

Spann's 21:39.2 in the 6K event was a career best at the distance and Robb's 21:45.8 was a top mark for her as well. Sophomore Ragina Whyte was the only other race finisher for the Hawks and her 24:28.30 was also a PR for her.

Senior Edwin Kipruto finished eighth for the men with a 29:48.8 in the 8K race.

Morgan State Women 10th, Men 11th in Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. --
The Morgan State women came in 10th, and the men finished 11th, in the Aubrey Shenk Invitational this past Saturday to conclude the regular season.

Rachel Field placed 23rd individually, crossing the line in a time of 25:03.50.

For the men, Justin Alaton placed 33rd individually, crossing the line in a time of 28:31.80.

Norfolk State Men, Women Compete at U.Va.

EARLYSVILLE, Va. -- 
Meshack Kipchirchir and Evans Cheruiyot both broke the 26-minute mark to lead the Norfolk State men's cross country team at the XC23 Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.

Kipchirchir finished the 8,000-meter course in a season-best time of 25 minutes, 28.9 seconds to finish 41st overall and pace the Spartans. Cheruiyot was right behind, placing 42nd in 25:30.1.

For the women, Fridah Koech finished the 5K course in 18 minutes, 27 seconds, good for 28th place in a meet which featured several regional powerhouse programs. She bested her PR from 2019 by seven seconds and her seaon best by more than 30.
