Coppin State Fourth in Mount St. Mary's to Open Season
FREDERICK, Md. -- TaVera Johnson earned All-Tournament Team honors as Coppin State's bowling team finished fourth of eight teams at the season-opening Mount St. Mary's Shootout this weekend at Terrace Lanes.
The Eagles finished with a 6-4 overall record, recording 8,119 total pins and a 162.4 average per game.
A freshman from Millersville, Md., Johnson finished fourth of 52 bowlers, recording 909 total pins and averaging a 181.80 per game. Johnson opened the Tournament with a 222 in a win over Pitt.-Greensburg, followed by a 183 against Felician and a 212 against Chestnut Hill.
Sophomore Logan Brown and freshman Temira White also placed in the top 10, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively. Brown averaged a 178.40 with a 201 against Pitt.-Greensburg and a 200 against Howard while White accumulated a 174.80 average which included a 230 against Mount St. Mary's.
White's game of 230 was the third-highest game of any player in the tournament.

Howard Gives Strong Showing in Season Opeer
FREDERICK, Md. -- The
Howard University women's bowling team opened the new season with four victories at the Mount Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary's. The two-day event was Howard's first time back on the lanes since February 2020.
Howard placed fifth overall after going 4-6 in the two-day span.
Saturday saw Howard begin the tourney with a pair of victories in Baker play. Howard knocked off Pittsburgh-Greensburg, 786-630, followed by a close win over Chestnut Hill College, 773-767.
Howard finished Saturday with losses against No. 13 MSM (748-1,117), Kutztown (844-937) and Chestnut Hill College (800-814).
The next day, senior Janae Bradford led the Bison in five traditional matches. The Chicago, Ill., native knocked down 802 pins in five contests, with a match-high 176 against conference rival Coppin State.

Morgan State Places Three in Top 20 at Youngstown State
STRUTHERS, Ohio -- This past weekend, Morgan State began the 2021-22 campaign by competing in the MOTIV Penguin Classic hosted by Youngstown State University at Holiday Bowl. Morgan State finished the weekend placing sixth out of 10 teams.
Morgan State took down No. 3 Arkansas State in decisive fashion in 5-game Baker in the first match of the day on Friday.
In all, three Lady Bears placed in the top 20 in the entire field for traditional play.
In her first tournament as a Lady Bear, Cheyenne Washington led all team scoring with a 192.8 average and finished 17
th in the entire tournament field. La'Monique Berrios finished in 18
th place with a 190 average.
Ashanti Fernandes finished strong in 20
th place overall with a 187 average.
