MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 25, 2021North Carolina Central sophomore Anissa Rivera was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. North Carolina A&T State’s Sean Kelly Darks was named Rookie of the Week, and Norfolk State graduate student E’Lexus Davis was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Rivera (F, 6-1, So., Capitol Heights, Md.) averaged a double-double in two games this past weekend against Norfolk State, going for 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds a contest – while also averaging 2.5 blocks and 1.0 steals. She went a combined 13-for-39 from the floor, and she had 22 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in Sunday’s comeback win. Of those 22 points, 16 came in the second half.
 
Darks (G, 5-8, Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) dropped 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting on Sunday in a win over Delaware State, while also dishing out four assists, grabbing three rebounds and recording a pair of steals.
 
Davis (G, 5-7, Gr., Landover, Md.) averaged 4.5 steals in a pair of games this past weekend against North Carolina Central. In Saturday’s contest, she tied her career high with five steals, while also blocking a shot, and on Sunday, she added four more steals.
 
Other Top Performers
Daije Harris (Delaware State) dropped 21 points against North Carolina A&T State.
 
Jalynn Holmes (Norfolk State) averaged 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds this past weekend in two games against North Carolina Central, including an 18-point effort on Saturday.
 
Jayla Jones-Pack (North Carolina A&T State) had 12 rebounds and two blocks against Delaware State.
 
Chanin Scott (North Carolina A&T State) had 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in a win over Delaware State.
 
Kiyana Brown (North Carolina Central) averaged 12.0 rebounds in two games against Norfolk State, recording 12 boards in both contests.
