NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 25, 2021Morgan State senior Tylar Roberson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State’s Paola Matos and Morgan State’s Gabriela Hiciano were named Co-Rookies of the Week, while Norfolk State junior Heliceliz Rivera earned Setter of the Week honors and Norfolk State junior Nicole Rodriguez was named Defensive Specialist of the Week.
 
Roberson (5-11, Sr., OH, Elkhart, Ind.) recorded a double-double in Saturday’s five-set loss to Temple, recording 15 kills and 10 digs, while also having a hand in a pair of blocks and recording a service ace. Dating back to the 2019 season, Roberson has notched four straight double-doubles.
 
Matos (5-11, Fr., OPP, Fajardo, Puerto Rico) had eight kills and nine digs for the Spartans in Sunday’s five-set win over George Mason (Norfolk State’s first season-opening win since 2013), hitting .263 for the contest. She also assisted on three blocks.
 
Hiciano (5-11, Fr., OH, Carolina, Puerto Rico) nearly had a double-double of her own against Temple, finishing the match with 11 digs and nine kills in her collegiate debut, while also recording two service aces and assisting on a block.
 
Rivera (5-9, Jr., S, Corozal, Puerto Rico) recorded a double-double against George Mason, dishing out 36 assists and recording 17 digs. She also racked up five kills and assisted on four blocks.
 
Rodriguez (5-5, Jr., L, Kissimmee, Fla.) led the way defensively for the Spartans, racking up 27 digs against George Mason.
 
Other Top Performers
Jelena Dukic (Delaware State) had 24 assists and four digs on Sunday at Old Dominion.
 
Sydney Lewis (Delaware State) racked up nine kills, assisted on six blocks and hit .500 against Old Dominion.
 
Alondra Maldonado (Delaware State) hit .263 with nine kills at Old Dominion.
 
Jada Bivins (Morgan State) recorded 36 assists, seven digs and two service aces at Temple.
 
Jennevy Santos (Morgan State) had 25 digs and six assists at Temple.
 
Rachel Williams (Norfolk State) notched 15 kills, nine digs and two service aces against George Mason.
