MEAC Volleyball Season Starts This Weekend

MEAC Weekly Volleyball Notes | MEAC Volleyball Preseason Honors

It's almost six months later than planned, but what was supposed to have been the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball season will begin this weekend with three matches currently on the docket.

Three programs -- Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Maryland Eastern Shore -- have opted out of the season.

North Carolina A&T State's Edie Brewer, the 2019 MEAC Co-Player of the Year, was voted as MEAC Preseason Player of the Year when the preseason awards were announced over the summer. The Aggies were selected as the preseason favorite to win the Southern Division, while Howard -- the five-time defending MEAC champion -- was picked to win the Northern Division.

Joining Brewer on the Preseason All-MEAC Team were Bethune-Cookman outside hitter Jordan Jefferson, Coppin State outside hitter/middle Miajavon Coleman and libero Ashley Roman, Howard’s Jurnee Tipton (outside hitter) and Tamar Wells (middle blocker, 2019 MEAC Rookie of the Year) and North Carolina A&T State outside hitter Courteney Pitt.

The season is set to open on Saturday, when Morgan State heads to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Temple. On Sunday, Delaware State will hit the road to take on Old Dominion -- a program in its first year of varsity competition -- while Norfolk State will play host to George Mason.

The MEAC Volleyball Championship will be April 2-3 on the campus of Norfolk State University. The top two teams in each division will qualify for the modified tournament field.
