MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 19, 2021North Carolina A&T State redshirt senior Chanin Scott and Morgan State redshirt senior Dahnye Redd were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Howard’s Anzhane’ Hutton was named Rookie of the Week, and Howard junior Krislyn Marsh was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Scott (G, 6-0, r-Sr., Charlotte, N.C.) averaged a double-double in the Aggies’ weekend sweep of Norfolk State, averaging 11.0 points and 11.0 rebounds a contest to go along with 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocked shots per contest. On Saturday, she recorded her first double-double as an Aggie with 16 points and 10 rebounds against the Spartans, and she had 12 more rebounds to go along with four assists, in Sunday’s contest.
 
Redd (F, 5-11, r-Sr., Darby, Pa.) averaged 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in helping the Lady Bears to a 2-0 weekend over Delaware State. On Sunday, she dropped 20 points on 6-for-14 shooting (8-for-9 from the free throw line), while also grabbing a team high-tying seven boards. In Saturday’s one-point win, she had eight points, six boards and two steals.
 
Hutton (F, 6-0, Fr., Cedar Hill, Texas) dropped a game-high 19 points in Sunday’s win over Coppin State, going 8-for-12 from the floor while also grabbing five rebounds, a steal and dishing out an assist. For the weekend, Hutton averaged 12.0 points and 3.5 rebounds, going a combined 10-for-21 from the floor.
 
Marsh (F, 6-0, Jr., Houston, Texas) averaged 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots and 2.5 steals per contest this past weekend in the Bison’s two-game sweep of Coppin State. Saturday’s contest saw her grab nine rebounds, block four shots and grab two steals, and on Sunday, she had three steals and two more blocks. Of her 12 total rebounds on the weekend, 10 were on the defensive end.
 
Other Top Performers
Aliyah Lawson (Coppin State) had outings of 16 and 11 points in two games against Howard.
 
Jalynda Salley (Coppin State) grabbed 10 rebounds on Saturday, and 14 on Sunday, in a pair of games against Howard.
 
Sean Kelly Darks (North Carolina A&T State) scored 10 points on Sunday against Norfolk State to go along with five rebounds.
 
Mangela Ngandjui (Norfolk State) grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds and blocked three shots on Sunday against North Carolina A&T State.
