DOVER, Del., Sept. 15, 2020 -- Delaware State head women's basketball coach Dave Caputo has announced the addition of former Lady Hornet Lanayjha Ashe to his staff, serving as the team's Assistant Director of Basketball Operations for the 2020-21 season.
Ashe lettered the past four seasons at Delaware State (2016-20), tallying 1,118 points, 272 assists and 127 3-point field goals. She's ranks second on the Lady Hornets' all-time 3-point field goal list, fourth in assists and 12th in scoring. Ashe became the 17th player in team history to reach the career 1,000-point mark in a 72-55 victory over Coppin State on Feb. 1, 2020.
"Lanayjha was a hardworking, tough and smart player who knows our system and can help teach the newcomers the important lessons she learned in the program," Caputo, who is entering his third season as head coach of the Lady Hornets, said. "She also knows the DSU campus, community, and system as well as anyone and will be great in helping with recruiting visits, tours and other daily day-to- day team operations."
Caputo led the Lady Hornets to a 12-18 overall record and 8-8 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) during his second season with the team in 2019-20, the most total and league wins by the team since the 2008-09 campaign.
Delaware State expects to feature eight returning letterwinners, including their top two scorers, along with a highly-rated newcomer class, for the 2020-21 season.
