The medical crisis impacting the nation and the world has caused sports across the globe to come to a standstill for the time being. For example, the Olympics scheduled for the summer of 2020 in Japan has been postponed until 2021.

While we wait on the sports world to get back on track, this is a good time to revisit the illustrious past of Morgan Athletics. Over the next few weeks we will tap into the archives for historic game recaps and stories.

Here's what happened on April 11, 2018:

TOWSON, Md. (April 11, 2018)-The Morgan State Lady Bears softball team entered its non-conference doubleheader against rival Towson on a six-game winning streak, but more importantly, had never defeated the host Tigers in their previous 17 meetings.

Towson entered the contest also riding a six-game winning streak and was 14-1 at home this season. The Tigers, who were ranked in several national categories, including fourth in batting average (.335), sixth in scoring (6.79) and 10th in slugging percentage (.519), were not only a perfect 17-0 all-time against the Lady Bears, but also carried a 21-game winning streak against members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

Morgan State sophomore pitcher Stephanie Rundlett (8-6), who earlier in the week was named MEAC Co-Pitcher of the Week, threw a game-high seven strikeouts and the Lady Bears took advantage of two Towson errors to defeat the host Tigers, 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Softball Stadium. The win would be the program's first against Towson.

Morgan State (17-13) got a run in the second inning when Evvie Buehlman scored on an error by the Towson second baseman, giving the guests a 1-0 lead. It would mark the first run scored by Morgan State against Towson since 2016.

The Lady Bears increased their advantage to 3-0 with two more runs in the fourth inning, when Stormy Zyzyk singled to center field to score Anissa Morales and Browdy scored on the play on a throwing error by the catcher.

Towson (29-10) got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning when Nicole Stockinger scored the Tigers' lone run of the game. However, Towson would make things interesting when Kendall Arcia singled to center and
Kendyl Scott followed with a walk to load the bases.

But Rundlett would get Towson's Riley Thies to pop up to second base to end the game.

Towson's Megan Dejter was charged with the loss and fell to 14-4 on the season. Dejter struck out five batters, while surrendering three runs on four hits.

Game 2
The Morgan State softball team wrapped up its historic day with an 11-5 victory in eight innings to complete a doubleheader sweep of host Towson.

Morgan State (18-13), which was coming off its first-ever win over the Tigers in the Game 1 victory, erupted for six runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie and secure the win.

"The feeling of beating them the first time was great, but the second time for the sweep put me on top of the world," Zyzyz, who transferred from Towson, said. "Being a part of a team that has yet to reach its full potential and still beat Towson says a lot on its own. This team is definitely a force to be reckoned with come playoffs (MEAC Tournament).

"From the losses we took in basketball and football, it meant a lot to us to show we can beat Towson," added Zyzyk. "Because of the terms I left there, there will always be an incentive to beat them."

Morgan State broke a scoreless game when Gabriella Gorosave doubled to score Damali Young, giving the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead in the third.

Towson (29-11), which fell to 14-3 at home this season and suffered its first non-conference doubleheader loss of the season, took their first lead of the game in the bottom half of the third inning on a two-run homer to left center by Daria Edwards to give the host Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Giselle Alvarez hit a two-run double to center field to give the Lady Bears the lead back at 3-2 in the fourth.

Towson got three runs in the fifth inning when Olivia Baltazar singled down the right field line to score a run and Brook Miko doubled to center field to bring in two more runs, as the Tigers extended their lead to 5-3.

Morgan State would fight back with a run by Danielle Pitpit in the sixth inning and Caitlyn Williams scored on an error by the short stop to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh.

The Lady Bears, who sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the eighth inning, recorded four straight hits to start the inning and scored five runs off of Morgan State's first eight batters before Towson even recorded the first out.

Pitpit, who led off the inning, drew a bases loaded walk in her second at bat of the inning to score Zyzyk for the sixth and final run of the inning, as the Lady Bears took an 11-5 advantage.

Morgan State's Amy Begg, who improved to 10-6 on the season, retired the Tigers with ease, as she got the three Towson batters she faced to foul out, line out and fly out in order to earn the complete game victory.

Begg would finish with four strikeouts and no walks in eight innings of work. Baltazar was charged with the loss for Towson and fell to 4-2.

Young and Haylee Bobos led the Lady Bears with three hits, while Alvarez and Gorosave each had 2RBI. Pitpit went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a game-high three runs.

The Lady Bears will look to take this momentum into this weekend's highly anticipated Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division series against visiting Delaware State (April 14-15). Morgan State and Delaware State (9-23, 7-2 MEAC), will both enter the contest tied for first in the division with identical league records.

Morgan State and the Hornets will get the series underway with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m., before wrapping up the series on Sunday at noon. All three games will be played at Lois T. Murray Field.

"Towson is better than any MEAC team in the northern division and this is also one of the best teams they've had also, so all of our confidence is up and I don't think anything can stop us now," Zyzyk said. "We played a perfect game defensively and won against all of the pitchers they threw at us. We are definitely on a high that we don't plan on coming down from anytime soon."
