WASHINGTON, D.C. Aug. 16, 2020 – Howard University head softball coach Tori Tyson joins This Is Us Softball on Instagram with Team USA's Ally Carda on Monday (Aug. 17) at 8 p.m. (ET)/7 p.m. (CT).
The team's Instagram account is
@thisisussb.
This Is Us Softball organization was formed to raise awareness of racial injustice for necessary changes while continuing to build awareness, empowerment, and unity through the softball community. The roster included more than half of the current United States Olympic team, including Carda.
"I was so proud to be a part of the softball community when "This is Us" was formed," Tyson said. "They took a stand and we all got better for it. Fighting social justice issues is important to me and to see the best in our sport stand in solitude is a moment I'll never forget."
The squad received an outpouring of support in the days following the formation of this new team.
Once the club was reformed, the team wore jerseys in honor of Black softball players that paved the way. Carda represented Tyson, who was a pitcher and outfielder at the University of Nebraska.
"When I saw Ally Carda, a woman I respect so much, wearing the "Tyson" name on her back I was overcome with joy and pride," Tyson said. "To be recognized during this movement and to be giving the platform to continue to listen and educate was such an honor for me."
The professional team saw its first season ended abruptly due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), back in July.
