DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Former Bethune-Cookman University tennis player Phatsimo Ruele had her first book, Passion and Purpose, released last week.

The Botswana native, a 2019 graduate, wanted to share her experiences and testimony of literally traveling from one corner of the world to another in pursuing her goals and furthering her Christian testimony.

"I speak to that young individual who is pursuing their passion and purpose and yet things look blurry," Ruele said. "That individual who wants to leave their native country to a "foreign land" and start afresh, but is afraid and doesn't know how they will make ends meet and are asking themselves, `If God will make a way and sustain them in that foreign land.'

"I'm also speaking to that individual who is asking themselves `Where do I start? How will I know that THIS IS IT?' is who speak to," Ruele added. "That Christian athlete who wants to know `God, why this sport? How can I use this sport-platform for your glory?'"

While at B-CU, Ruele was a flight winner at the HBCU National Championship tournament and was a member of the 2019 Lady Wildcat team that advanced to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament championship match. The previous year, she delivered an exciting deciding point in a 4-3 victory over Howard in the tournament quarterfinals.

"I remember Phatsimo as a hard working tennis student-athlete who always had a big smile on her face," B-CU Senior Associate Athletic Director Sandra Booker said. "I was so surprised and excited when I heard that she had written a book. I am so happy that she was able to write about her journey that led her to Bethune-Cookman University and I can't wait to read it!"
