DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University head volleyball coach Brittany Williams officially announced the addition of eight players to the Lady Wildcat program.
Madison Coates, Lauryn Coleman, Ayannah Henry, Nyasia John, Jasmine Moore, Malina Spencer, Nia Spicer and Jacynta "Janae" Williams have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) and will join the team for the 2020-21 year.
"I am very excited about this new group of Lady Wildcats that will be joining the program in the 2020 class," Williams said. "This group will definitely be one of our strongest classes during my time here and they all have experience being apart of winning cultures and programs at many different levels. "
Madison Coates – 5'8 Setter Oviedo, Fla. (Hagerty HS)
SCOUTING REPORT: Coates was a part of Hagerty's 2019 Florida 7A state championship as well as a 2017 Final Four appearance. She had 328 assists as a sophomore.
WILLIAMS SAYS: "Madison is a proven winner coming off a Florida high school state championship. She played at an elite level throughout her career and she will round out our setter group. She has the ability to run a fast pace offense and plays lights out defense."
Lauryn Coleman – 5'10 Outside Hitter, Blythewood, S.C. (Blythewood HS)
SCOUTING REPORT: Coleman earned All-State and All-Region honors this year and was one of 11 athletes in South Carolina named to the Under Armour AVCA Region Team as she helped lead the Bengals to the 12th region championship in program history.
WILLIAMS SAYS: "This kid can FLY! Lauryn has great size, solid ball control and a nose for the ball. She will bring both sizeand depth for us on the outside and has the ability to make an impact right away."
Ayannah Henry – 5-8 Outside Hitter, Port Saint Lucie, Fla. (Indian River State)
SCOUTING REPORT: Henry was a two-year standout at Indian River State.
WILLIAMS SAYS: " Ayannah Henry will bring a lot of versatility on the pin for us with her speed and athleticism. She will also bring a wealth of experience to the position after having two standout seasons at her previous college."
Nyasia John – 5'11 Middle Blocker, Miami Fla. (Eastern Florida State)
SCOUTING REPORT: Registered 103 blocks in two seasons at Eastern Florida State.
WILLIAMS SAYS: "Nyasia's size and ability to play both in the middle and on the right side will bring a lot of depth both offensively and defensively for us this season. Her previous experience at the junior college level will also be important to help fill key positions lost from the 2019 graduating class."
Jasmine Moore 5'10 Outside Hitter Baytown, Tex. (Sterling HS)
SCOUTING REPORT: Had 357 kills her senior season.
WILLIAMS SAYS: "Jasmine will be a force! She has the ability to play on either pin, serve as a primary passer and contribute to an already solid backcourt. She hits a heavy ball and can run a fast pace attack on both the left and the right pin. She has the ability to be a big piece of the offensive puzzle this season."
Malina Spencer 6'2 Outside Hitter/ Middle Blocker Kissimmee, Fla. (Osceola HS)
SCOUTING REPORT: Had a 700-kill career at Osceola HS.
WILLIAMS SAYS: "Malina will bring size and a wealth of offensive depth as a freshman and will make a run at a starting spot either in the middle or on the pin. Her experience playing at the elite level for Top Select and under some of the best coach's in the Florida region will prove to be an asset during her four years here."
Nia Spicer 5'5 Setter Round Rock, Tex. (Cedar Ridge HS)
SCOUTING REPORT: Had 767 assists her junior and senior seasons.
WILLIAMS SAYS: "Nia's defensive ability and court awareness will prove to be vital in continuing to build our program on both sides of the ball. She is a natural born leader with amazing hands and will definitely bring depth in the setter position."
Jacynta "Janae' Williams" 5'10 Outside Hitter Simpsonville, SC (Woodmont HS)
SCOUTING REPORT: Posted 212 kills her senior season.
WILLIAMS SAYS: "Jacynta will also prove to be a force on the opposite pin for us. She has amazing athleticism, a quick arm and solid ball control. Her lefty swing will bring a different look for us on the pin in the upcoming years."
