WASHINGTON, D.C., April 9, 2020 – Dr. Aquil Bayyan, Sr., a 2002 graduate, was a guard for the Howard University men's basketball team (1997-2000) where he competed in over 50 games during his collegiate career.
After his playing career, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and received his Master of Arts in Secondary Education, Principal Certification, and Doctor of Education.
Following in the footsteps of his parents, Bayyan has worked in education since graduating from The Mecca. Currently, he is the high school principal at Yongsan International School of Seoul (YISS) in Seoul, South Korea. He believes that "having an inclusive and diverse campus will help students and staff at every level" and employs this philosophy every day.
Before his days as a principal, Bayyan served as a teacher, assistant athletic director and dean of students in addition to a host of other positions while working in Washington, D.C.; Garland, Texas; Plano, Texas; and Kuwait.
Bayyan has not left basketball behind as he has been a basketball coach and mentor to several basketball players, who have played in college, the National Basketball Association (NBA), and international leagues.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Alem (Solomon) Bayyan, a 2002 HU graduate, and two children.
