NORFOLK, Va., March 20, 2020—
Delaware State’s Alexis Neuer was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowler of the Year, the conference office announced today.
Brooke Roberts of Maryland Eastern Shore was named Rookie of the Year.
Maryland Eastern Shore’s Kayla Bandy received Coach of the Year accolades.
All awards were voted on by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
Neuer earned the Bowler of the Year honor for the second time in three seasons. In more than 1,000 total frames bowled this season, she averaged nearly 21 pins per frame (20.81) and she had an overall fill rate of 89.1 percent. She rolled strikes 50.5 percent of the time, and her all-spare percentage came in at 87.8 percent. The three-time MEAC Bowler of the Week was MVP of the Stormin’ Blue & White Classic, and she is tied for the third-highest single game this season with a 268 she rolled at that tournament.
Roberts was a three-time MEAC Rookie of the Week this season, and she was also named Bowler of the Week on Feb. 25 after being named MVP of the second MEAC regular-season meet. For the regular season, Roberts averaged 196.2 pins overall (197.1 in traditional play, 195.5 in Baker) and had an overall fill rate of 84.4 percent. Her strike rate was 45.1 percent, and she was strong in cleaning up the lane as well, with an all-spare rate of 71.6 percent and a single-pin spare rate of 92.3 percent.
Bandy led Maryland Eastern Shore to an 83-win regular season, a perfect 20-0 record in MEAC play and a No. 6 ranking in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), the highest among ranked teams in the MEAC. The defending champion Hawks were the preseason favorite heading into 2019-20, and they held serve. In addition to winning both MEAC regular-season meets, the Hawks won the Cougar Classic and finished second in the Vern Stallings Invitational.
Joining Neuer on the All-MEAC First Team are Cayla Hicks and Chloe Skurzynski of Maryland Eastern Shore, Cameron Strombeck of North Carolina A&T State and UAB’s Taylor Russell.
