NORFOLK, Va., March 2, 2020 – Norfolk State’s Jazzmaine Hammond was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Teammate Alexis Robinson was selected as Pitcher of the Week and Morgan State’s Cayla Sweazie was selected as Rookie of the Week.
 
Hammond (OF, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) had a .462 batting average in five games for the Spartans over the weekend. She scored seven runs, had six hits and drove in 10 runs with a double, three home runs and two stolen bases. In the Spartans’ win over Morehead State, she was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a home run. She scored two runs and had four RBIs.
 
Robinson (P, Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) went 2-0 in the circle this weekend with wins over Fairleigh Dickenson and Morehead State, allowing just two earn runs. She finished with an 0.89 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched and had five strikeouts. In the win over Fairleigh Dickinson, she allowed three hits and no earned runs while striking out two batters.
 
Sweazie (SS, Fr., Ashburn, Va.) started in two games over the weekend, finishing with a batting average of .500 to lead Morgan State, going 3-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs. Against Princeton, she posted a 2-for-2 performance, including a double with three RBIs and a run scored.

Quianah Mitchell (B-CU) scored five runs on six hits, finishing with a .375 batting average over the weekend
 
Haley Parks (B-CU) finished the weekend with eight hits while scoring seven runs and finished with a .470 batting average.
 
Kyaira Brown (FAMU) with 1-0 in the circle with a win over Mississippi Valley State. She also pitched two scoreless innings of relief against Tennessee State.
 
Destiny Cuevas (FAMU) when 4-for-9 for a .444 batting average with two runs and two RBIs. She had three hits in the game against Tennessee State on Sunday and scored a run.
 
Melkayla Irvis (FAMU) finished the weekend with a .333 batting average in three games including a double, home run and five RBIs. In the win over UAPB, she was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and home run.
 
Luz Aguilasocho (HOW) recorded three multi-hit performances over the weekend while driving in a career-high four runs against Marshall.
 
Kalita Dennis (HOW) recorded three multi-hit performances over the weekend while tying a career high with four RBIs in the win over Morehead State.
 
Sydney Hixenbaugh (HOW) earned her first victory of the season against Morehead State. She finished the weekend with a 3.13 ERA.
