MEAC Bowling: Five Teams in Action This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 6, 2020--
The second half of the 2019-20 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) bowling season continues to roll on this weekend with five schools in action.
 
UAB and Florida A&M will participate in Bethune-Cookman’s Wildcat Classic in Orlando, Fla., while Norfolk State and Howard will travel to Reading, Pa. to compete in the Golden Bear Classic.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore’s Cayla Hicks was named MEAC Bowler of the Week after being the top individual at the Prairie View A&M Invitational this past weekend. She earned tournament MVP honors after averaging 234.17 pins in traditional play, and she eclipsed the 200-pin mark in all six games -- including a weekend-best 265 against Vanderbilt and a 251 against Stephen F. Austin.
 
The Hawks went 4-2 in those matches and finished fourth in a tournament that featured the top eight teams in the nation.
 
Coppin State’s Raja Anderson was named MEAC Rookie of the Week after placing 25th at the Bowl for the Kure hosted by Molloy College this past weekend. She had a traditional pin fall average of 182.6 and she eclipsed 200-pin mark twice, rolling a 214 and a 205.
 
The National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) released its February 2020 poll on Wednesday, and five MEAC programs were among those ranked.

Defending conference champion Maryland Eastern Shore is No. 6 in the latest poll, with North Carolina A&T State tied for No. 8 with Youngstown State. Delaware State dipped down to No. 18.

Associate members UAB and Monmouth are ranked 21st and 22nd, respectively.

McKendree, with 32 of a possible 35 first-place votes, is atop the poll, followed by Sam Houston State, Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Arkansas State in the top five.
 
The second MEAC meet of the season will be Feb. 21-23 in Pensacola, Fla.
