MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 4, 2020 C.J. Keyser of North Carolina Central University has been tabbed this week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Ronald Jackson of North Carolina A&T State University, meanwhile, is the Defensive Player of the Week, and Tyrese Jenkins of Norfolk State University is the Rookie of the Week.
 
Keyser (G, 6-3, r-Jr., Baltimore, Md.) scored a career-high 23 points twice over the weekend en route to averaging 23.0 points a game while shooting 72.7 percent from the floor. In a win over South Carolina State, he went 9-for-12 from the floor and notched 23 points, three rebounds and three assists. Then, in a win over Norfolk State, he went 7-for-10 from the field and again scored 23 points along with deuces in rebounds, assists and steals.
 
Jackson (F, 6-8, Sr., Clay County, Fla.) helped the Aggies take over first place in the conference with strong performances on both ends of the court. Defensively, he averaged 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots as NCAT defeated both Norfolk State and South Carolina State. He grabbed 15 defensive rebounds over the two games, and he also averaged 15.9 points a game.
 
Jenkins (G/F, 6-6, Fr., Richmond, Va.) averaged 12.5 points and 2.5 rebounds for the Spartans, who dropped games to North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central. Jenkins shot 61.5 percent from the floor, 50.0 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the line.
 
Other Top Performers
Brendan Medley-Bacon (CSU) averaged 10.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, to go along with 2.5 blocked shots and 2.0 assists, as the Eagles defeated Howard after losing to Delaware State. He had a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double against the Bison.
 
Koby Thomas (CSU) had 17 points, five rebounds and three steals in a loss to Delaware State, followed by 16 points and eight rebounds in a win over Howard. His averages were 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds for the week.
 
Evins Desir (FAMU) scored 16 points and grabbed three rebounds in the Rattlers’ lone game of the week, a victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
 
Malik Miller (MSU) averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Howard. He had a career-high 19 points in the win over Howard.
 
Gabriel Gyamfi (UMES) had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double in the Hawks’ victory over Delaware State.
