BALTIMORE, Md. (February 29, 2020) -- The Morgan State men's basketball team suffered a 72-65 setback against crosstown rival Coppin State Saturday at Hill Field House.
Morgan State dropped to a 15-15 overall record and are 9-6 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Eagles (10-20, 6-9) avenged a 50-48 loss to the Bears on Jan. 25 and now have ten victories this season, their most since the 2013-14 season.
The Bears went on a 7-0 run to pull within 67-65 with two minutes remaining, but after a missed three by David Syfax, the Eagles were able to seal the game at the free-throw line.
Koby Thomas finished with a game- and career-high 28 points (14 in the first half) and eight rebounds to the Eagles. Dejuan Clayton added 13 and Kamar McKnight chipped in 11.
Coppin State extended its series lead against the Bears to 61-33.

Princess Anne, Md. (Feb. 29, 2020) --- Delaware State ended a string of dubious streaks with an 84-63 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in a men's basketball contest at the Hytche Center today.
In addition to snapping an overall seven-game losing streak, the Hornets ended a six-game skid against MDES and a five-year winless stretch on the road against the Hawks.
The 21-point margin of victory was DSU's largest against a MEAC opponent since an 81-55 win over Howard on Feb. 11, 2008.
Myles Carter came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points and
Pinky Wiley also tallied to lead five double-figure scorers for the Hornets.
Carter has reached double-figures in scoring in seven straight and eight of the last nine games, while Wiley has combined for 45 points in the last two contests and also reached double-figures in each of the last seven games. In addition, Wiley has hit 10 three-point field goals in the last two outings.
Fahim Jenetto contributed 14 points,
Omari Peek-Green 12 and
Ameer Bennett 10 to the win.
DSU's
John Crosby, the MEAC's leading scorer at 19.9 points per game, was held to eight points, but led all players with five.

North Carolina Central 83, South Carolina State 82 (2OT)
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – For just the third time in program history, North Carolina Central University was pushed into two overtimes, but the Eagles held firm to come away with a dramatic 83-82 win over South Carolina State on Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
NCCU (15-13, 11-3 MEAC) outscored SCSU (11-16, 6-9 MEAC) 14-4 over the first 10 minutes of the contest, and made four consecutive field goals during the run. The Bulldogs were able to find their footing in the first half and pressure the Eagles, but NCCU held firm and took a 33-25 lead to the halftime break.
NCCU shot a scorching-hot 59.1 percent from the floor, and went 4-for-8 from the perimeter in the first half.
The Eagles started the second period on a 6-0 run over the first three minutes, stamped by a steal and jam by
Nicolas Fennell (Bowie, Md.) to take a 41-25 lead. SCSU then sparked a run and was able to cut the lead down to just seven with 10 minutes to go, at 48-41.
SCSU turned the tables on the Eagles with a 19-5 run after that point to take a 60-53 lead with 3:11 to go. The Bulldogs were able to narrowly stay ahead of the Eagles down the stretch, but
Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was able to find his way through the paint to knock down a floater with 10 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, tied 65-65.

Norfolk State 89, Howard 59
NORFOLK, Va. --
Jermaine Bishop had a season-high 26 points as Norfolk State won its eighth consecutive home game, routing Howard 89-59 on Saturday night.
Joe Bryant Jr. had 15 points and six rebounds for Norfolk State (14-15, 10-4 Mid-Eastern Conference).
Devante Carter added 10 points and six assists.
Spirit Ricks had seven rebounds.
Nate Garvey had 16 points for the Bison (2-27, 0-14), whose losing streak reached 17 games. Wayne Bristol Jr. added 11 points and six rebounds.
Charles Williams, whose 18 points per game coming into the contest led the Bison, was held to only 7 points on 1-of-10 shooting.
The Spartans improve to 2-0 against the Bison for the season. Norfolk State defeated Howard 71-63 on Jan. 11. Norfolk State plays Delaware State on the road on Monday. Howard plays Maryland Eastern Shore at home on Monday.
