MEAC Women's Hoops: B-CU One Win from Outright Title

2019-20 MEAC Women's Basketball Statistics | MEAC Women's Basketball Notes

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 28, 2020--
Bethune-Cookman, the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's basketball tournament champion, has already added a share of this year's regular-season title to its resume -- thanks to a home win over Norfolk State this past week.

But with a win in either of their last two games, the Wildcats can win the title outright.

SATURDAY'S GAMES
Four games are on the docket, with Norfolk State playing host to Howard as the Spartans look to lock up the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament (March 10-14 in Norfolk, Va.). Morgan State, tied for third with North Carolina A&T State, will play host to rival Coppin State.

Delaware State will pay Maryland Eastern Shore a visit, and North Carolina Central will do the same at South Carolina State.

MONDAY'S GAMES
The last Monday of the regular season will see Bethune-Cookman hit the road to face North Carolina Central, while Norfolk State will head to Delaware State, North Carolina A&T State will visit South Carolina State and Howard will play host to Maryland Eastern Shore.

AROUND THE MEAC
North Carolina Central's Paulina Afriyie was named MEAC Player and Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week, while freshman Anissa Rivera was named Rookie of the Week. Those two have been key in the Eagles winning three in a row and boasting a winning record in MEAC play at 7-6.

Coppin State's Chance Graham, one of the nation's best rebounders, is currently eighth on the MEAC's all-time rebounding list.

While Morgan State and North Carolina A&T State are tied for third in the standings, the Lady Bears -- led by forward Chelsea Mitchell -- hold the tiebreaker by virtue of a 42-38 win over the Aggies back in January. Delaware State is fifth in the standings, sitting at 8-5, followed by North Carolina Central.

Thursday, March 5 will be the final night of the regular season, and there are five games on the docket -- highlighted by rivalry games between Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman, as well as North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central (NCCU got its three-game winning streak started with a double-overtime win over the Aggies).

Norfolk State will visit Morgan State to close out the regular season, while Delaware State will be at Howard and Coppin State will pay Maryland Eastern Shore a visit.
